Doing a bit of reading this morning and ended up in John 4. The Gospel according to John is one of my favorites. I highly recommend it.
Anyway, I’m looking at John’s account of Jesus witness to the Samaritan woman where she asks Him, “How can you offer better water than he, (speaking of Jacob), and his sons and his animals enjoyed?”
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Okay, so I had this thought. Are you drinking the water that satisfies or the water that pacifies?
Random indulgence in spiritual things will only serve to pacify a need to be accepted at face value. People are never really satisfied due to a spotty record for making the things of God a priority in our lives. Therefore, folks remain thirsty and searching even though the Thirst Quencher is right before them.
The way to be satisfied is daily indulgence in the things of God. People of random thought and spotty practice seldom find much more than momentary relief where people of God find peace that can only come from a daily talk with Jesus.
Take the time today for a drink from the Fountain of Life.
