I do not typically do this because a faithful preacher needs no defense. What he does need are people who will work as hard to understand the message as he works to prepare and deliver it.

You know, faith preaching is not easy, and I will not preach an easy faith.

To believe in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins only to continue pursuing sin without conviction is not living faith. It is the desire for an easy life—a life that does not exist. Living faith says, “Whatever position I find myself in, I will be content, because I know God is there.”

A faithful preacher cannot preach an easy faith. Easy faith leaves a person unchanged and unconcerned with obedience. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly says, “If you will, then I will.” These promises remind us that faith responds to God’s grace with obedience, service, and surrender.

This is not like an earthly job that says, “Give me a certain number of years, and I will take care of you for the rest of your life.” Such an arrangement often requires little more than showing up. God’s purpose is far greater than simply helping us exist. He is teaching us how to live.

Faith is not merely believing that God can save us. Faith is following Him wherever He leads, trusting Him in every circumstance, and learning to walk in His ways.
