Anyone ever told you that you talk too much? Yeah, me too. Not something we like to hear.
And, this is it for this week. I’ve talked too much…lol.
I’m often amazed at the things folk’ll say if you’ll just let them talk. Huh, I have to laugh sometimes when my son gets to saying more than needs saying right before I tell him to stop while he’s ahead…lol.
What really gets me though is how in a single moment of hurt, disappointment or even misunderstanding, we’ll just kick that mouth out of gear and let it roll. You ever done that? Sure you have. Everyone has. Sometimes, immediate embarrassment. Other times, the embarrassment comes later. Still, even in apology there is what seems a lifetime of regret.
You know it’s fear that does that. The Bible tells us to be slow to speak. I think it’s because the Lord knows that when we’re afraid, we won’t listen long enough to see if there is really even a problem.
Sometimes backing off will allow folks to cool it. Aren’t they important enough for that? Besides, everything doesn’t have to turn into a situation.
You know what that means don’t you? It means you, Christian, have to be the one to back off. Paul said in Romans 12, “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.” This doesn’t mean that you are to be weak but benevolent. Which means if you are a follower of Christ, the first move is on you. Not them. Always.
“Jesus knows how I am!” Yes, He does. But He wants you to be like He is.
That’s the word of the day!
Have a great Friday! We’ll see you Sunday!
