So, yesterday as I always do, I started my day with a workout. The run was good. But the weight training seemed a little off. I made all the moves and the lifts. Even went a little heavier on some but it just seemed routine. I think that was the problem. A routine is where you do the same things. It’s like being stuck. When motion stops. Growth stops.
Today, I read these verses from Isaiah 43, “But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. 19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”
The Lord had just reminded the children of Israel of how He had opened the water and allowed them passage on dry land. How He had snuffed out the horses and the chariots of Egypt by drawing them beneath the waves of the sea. Now He says, “Forget all that…”
Being just a regular guy, I’m thinking, “What? Forget that you opened my sea of trouble and dried up the mud so I can pass on dry ground. Forget that you caught my enemy in a trap that he created for himself because he chased me blindly without knowing that I trust You to bring me…Ah, I see what you did there?”
When things are good, I guess it’s easy to forget that Jesus sets us free of trouble that we might chase His promise. It is He who protects us, who destroys our enemies both seen and unseen. It is Him who keeps us from harm.
Maybe the reason my workout felt off was because God is about to start a new something for me. That’s what I’m going with. Could be He’s carving out a new plan. Bringing water to a dry place. I don’t know. But I’ll tell you what I do know. Today’s training session was much better than yesterday’s.
Folks, if your tomorrow’s aren’t better than your today’s there’s a good chance you’re just stuck in the mud. Break free of the routine. Forget what has happened. I think the Lord wants to do a new thing in your life too.
All you have to do is trust Him and let Him do it.
If you feel something off in your life today, choose Jesus. Find you a church and get in it. It’ll be worth it. I promise.
